# Gratitude

## Gratitude for blessings

*Recommended to recite at the end of every prayer.*

اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ

*Allâhümme einnî alâ zikrike ve şükrike ve hüsni ibâdetike.*

O Allah, help me to remember You, to be grateful to You, and to worship You in the best manner.

> The Prophet (PBUH) recommended Muadh ibn Jabal to recite this after every prayer.

## Upon receiving good news

*Said when receiving good news or when something good happens.*

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي بِنِعْمَتِهِ تَتِمُّ الصَّالِحَاتُ

*Elhamdülillâhillezî bi ni'metihî tetimmüs sâlihât.*

All praise is for Allah, by whose grace good deeds are completed.

## Upon something displeasing

*Said when something displeasing occurs.*

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ

*Elhamdülillâhi alâ külli hâl.*

All praise is for Allah in all circumstances.

## Upon seeing someone afflicted

*Said silently (not to the afflicted person) upon seeing someone in hardship.*

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي عَافَانِي مِمَّا ابْتَلَاكَ بِهِ وَفَضَّلَنِي عَلَى كَثِيرٍ مِمَّنْ خَلَقَ تَفْضِيلًا

*Elhamdülillâhillezî âfânî mimmebtelâke bihî ve faddalenî alâ kesîrin mimmen haleka tafdîlâ.*

All praise is for Allah who saved me from that which He tested you with and who greatly favoured me above much of His creation.

> Whoever says this will be protected from that affliction.

## Gratitude after relief from difficulty

*Recited upon being relieved from a difficulty.*

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَذْهَبَ عَنِّي الْأَذَى وَعَافَانِي

*Elhamdülillâhillezî ezhebe annil ezâ ve âfânî.*

All praise is for Allah who removed the difficulty from me and granted me well-being.

## Prostration of gratitude

*Recited during the prostration of gratitude when blessed with something good.*

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى، اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، سَجَدَ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ

*Sübhâne rabbiyel a'lâ. Allâhümme leke secedtü ve bike âmentü ve leke eslemtü, secede vechiye lillezî halakahû ve savverahû ve şakka sem'ahû ve basarahû.*

Glory be to my Lord, the Most High. O Allah, to You I have prostrated, in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. My face has prostrated to the One who created it and fashioned it, and opened its hearing and sight.

## When putting on new clothing

*Recited when putting on new or clean clothing.*

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

*Elhamdülillâhillezî kesânî hâzes sevbe ve razekanîhi min ğayri havlin minnî ve lâ kuvvetin.*

All praise is for Allah who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, with no power or might from myself.

> Past and future sins are forgiven.
