# Al-'Azim

**الْعَظِيمُ** — The Magnificent

The One whose greatness cannot be grasped by the mind, possessing infinite majesty and magnificence.

**Source:** Bakara 2:255 (2:255)

**Virtue:** Al-'Azim declares that Allah's magnificence, grandeur, and majesty exceed any measure the human mind can take. In Ayat al-Kursi (Al-Baqarah 2:255) it is said that Allah encompasses the seven heavens and the earth, that preserving them does not weary Him, and the verse closes: 'He is the Most High, the Magnificent.' The servant who reflects on this name notices how small their worldly troubles really are—falling into no anxiety that diminishes Allah for a minor matter. In ruku' the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say 'Subhana Rabbiyal-'Azim' (Glory be to my Lord, the Magnificent), invoking this name many times a day.
