# Al-Baqi

**الْبَاقِي** — The Everlasting One

The One whose existence has no end, remaining forever after all else has passed away.

**Source:** Rahmân 55:27 (55:27)

**Virtue:** Al-Baqi declares that Allah's being will never end—He remains eternally. In Surah ar-Rahman 55:27 He says: 'And there remains the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.' Everything in this world is perishing—people, wealth, station, even mountains; but Al-Baqi's essence is enduring. The servant who reflects on this name lets go of binding the heart to perishing things—instead of fleeting loves, they bind themselves to what endures. The tasbih 'La ilaha illa Allahu al-Hayyu al-Baqi' of the Prophet (peace be upon him) centers on this name.

## Related hadith

> When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) began night prayer, he used to say: 'Allahu Akbaru Kabira, wal-hamdu lillahi kathira, wa subhan-Allahi bukratan wa asila' (Allah is great—great indeed; much praise to Allah; glory to Allah morning and evening).
