# Al-Ghaffar

**الْغَفَّارُ** — The Forgiving

The One who forgives sins repeatedly and veils the faults of His servants, showing boundless clemency.

**Source:** Zümer 39:5 (39:5)

**Virtue:** Al-Ghaffar declares that Allah veils sins, forgives, and continually pardons those who turn to Him in repentance—the intensive form ghaffar means: the One who forgives abundantly, repeatedly, without end. The Prophet (peace be upon him) related a sacred hadith in which Allah declares: 'O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky, then you sought My forgiveness, I would forgive you.' The servant who invokes Al-Ghaffar never despairs no matter how grave the sins, turns to Him in sincere repentance, purifies the heart with istighfar, and tastes the inner peace of having one's faults concealed.

> Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, narrating from his Lord: 'O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and hope in Me, I will forgive you whatever is from you, and I will not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and then you sought My forgiveness, I would forgive you, and I would not mind.'
