# An-Nur

**النُّورُ** — The Light

The One who illuminates the heavens and earth and places the light of faith in the hearts of believers.

**Source:** Nûr 24:35 (24:35)

**Virtue:** An-Nur declares that Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth—the source of all light in existence. In Surah an-Nur 24:35 He says: 'Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth,' followed by an extended likeness in which this light is described through the parable of a lamp. An-Nur is not material light; it is the light of truth, of guidance, of iman. The servant who reflects on this name wishes their heart to be illumined by Allah's light; the Prophet's (peace be upon him) du'a—'O Allah, place light in my heart, my tongue, my ear, my eye…'—expresses this longing.
