# Ar-Rahim

**الرَّحِيمُ** — The Merciful

The One whose special mercy is reserved for believers in the Hereafter, showing abundant compassion to those who turn to Him in faith.

**Virtue:** Ar-Rahim denotes Allah's special mercy reserved for the believers—manifest in the acceptance of repentance, the forgiveness of sins, and the granting of paradise in the Hereafter. Paired with Ar-Rahman in the basmala that opens nearly every chapter of the Qur'an, this name teaches the servant never to despair. No matter how grave the sin, the door of repentance remains open to those who turn back to Him in sincerity.
