# As-Sabur

**الصَّبُورُ** — The Patient One

The One who does not hasten to punish wrongdoers, showing great patience toward His servants.

**Virtue:** As-Sabur declares that Allah is patient—He does not punish His servants immediately; He grants them time to repent. As-Sabur is close in meaning to Al-Halim, but As-Sabur expresses a longer waiting: Allah gives even those who wrong Him centuries of respite. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'No one is more patient with what offends Him than Allah; people attribute children to Him, yet He grants them well-being and provision' (Sahih al-Bukhari, Tawhid #7378). The servant who reflects on this name lets go of immediately punishing those who harm them—imitating As-Sabur's character. At the same time, they know their own sins may not be tolerated forever; they remember their lifespan is a period of respite. As the 99th name, As-Sabur is the most beautiful closing of the list—patience is a virtue required at every stage of the believer's life, even into the grave after death.
