# Tashreeq takbir

**From the Fajr prayer of the Day of Arafah through the Asr prayer of the fourth day of Eid, included, right after the salaam of every obligatory prayer.**

اَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ

Transliteration: Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar, wa lillahil-hamd.

Meaning: Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no god but Allah. Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. All praise belongs to Allah.

## 23 prayers: which day, which prayer?

The Day of Arafah is the day before Eid al-Adha. The takbirs begin after the Fajr prayer on that day and run through the Asr prayer of the fourth day of Eid, included: 23 obligatory prayers in all.

## The ruling on the tashreeq takbir

- In the preferred Hanafi view the tashreeq takbirs are obligatory (wajib) for every Muslim, man or woman; in the Shafi'i school they are sunnah.
