ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ
Dhu al-Jalal wa al-Ikram
The One who combines infinite grandeur with boundless generosity—awesome in majesty and lavish in favour.
Rahmân 55:27
Dhu al-Jalal wa al-Ikram declares that Allah possesses both grandeur and awe (al-Jalal) and generosity and honor (al-Ikram)—these two attributes meet in His Essence. In Surah ar-Rahman 55:78 He says: 'Blessed is the name of your Lord, Possessor of Majesty and Honor.' In a hadith it is said that 'Ya Dha al-Jalali wa al-Ikram—the du'a of one who calls upon Him by this name is accepted.' The servant who reflects on this name remembers together both Allah's awe-worthy grandeur and His hope-worthy generosity—balancing the scales of fear and hope through this name.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Persist in calling upon Allah with: Ya Dha al-Jalali wa al-Ikram.'
