What to know about Mawlid al-Nabi
Mawlid al-Nabi is the Blessed Night marking the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the night of 12 Rabi al-Awwal. It is spent with Quran recitation, hymns in praise of the Prophet, and supplication; reciting the Mawlid poem has been an Anatolian tradition for centuries.
Diyanet's list gives a Blessed Night under the date of the evening on which it begins. According to the TDV Encyclopedia of Islam, the date of a Blessed Night always belongs to the day that follows the night, so the night begins with the evening ezan of the listed day.
Mawlid al-Nabi dates, 2027 to 2034
The Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, so the date moves earlier every year. Dates for 2026 and 2027 follow the list Diyanet has published; later ones are estimates.

The Quran and the Sunnah do not prescribe any act of worship specific to this night. Quran recitation, hymns, poems in praise of the Prophet and supplication are common in the programmes held for it.
The night can be spent in repentance, seeking forgiveness, supplication, make-up or voluntary prayer, fasting, reading the Quran, charity and keeping family ties. Praying or doing good on these nights is not an innovation unless it is claimed to be required on them.
Scholars differ on Mawlid gatherings. Some found them excessive, while al-Suyuti considered them a commendable innovation.

The Diyanet board does not consider it right to concentrate worship on these nights and neglect other times; steady, regular worship is what matters. It also stresses that Blessed Night programmes should not be presented as a religious obligation.
