What is done on this day?
The notes come from Diyanet and the TDV Encyclopedia of Islam. Where schools differ, the Hanafi view used in Türkiye is given together with the others.
In Diyanet's list of religious days, Eid al-Fitr lasts three days, 1 to 3 Shawwal. The day before is the eve of the Eid.

The Eid prayer is wajib in the Hanafi school and sunnah in the Shafi'i school, and the ruling applies to those on whom the Friday prayer is obligatory. In the Hanafi school it must be prayed in congregation. Someone who cannot join does not have to make it up or pray it alone; praying two or four rak'ahs of Duha (Ishraq) at home is recommended instead.

The Eid prayer time begins once the sun has risen. The hour differs from province to province and is announced by the local muftis.

Zakat al-Fitr (fitrah) is obligatory (wajib) for a Muslim who is considered well-off in the religious sense and reaches the end of Ramadan, for themselves and their young children. It falls due on the first day of the Eid; it can be given before, and giving it before the Eid prayer is recommended. Leaving it until after the Eid is makruh.
